CS Expansion

Now it can be told! Come June, work will begin to renovate the third floor of Brown’s CIT building to let the Computer Science Department expand into it (we’re currently housed in the fourth and fifth floors). We’ve been growing steadily over the past few years in faculty and graduate students both. Indeed, in recent years we’ve had to ration our faculty visitors stringently in order to offer them any kind of office space at all. In his nomination of David for this honor, chair Eli Upfal stressed his contributions and devotion to undergraduate education. In particular, he pointed to David's innovative ...

CSers win Salomon Faculty Research Awards

We’re happy to announce that two CS Department members have received this year’s Richard B. Salomon Faculty Research Awards.

Prof. Amy Greenwald will work with Prof. Pedro Dal Bo of Economics on "The Power of Advice: Experimental Evidence on Correlated Equilibria”. Correlated equilibria generalize Nash equilibria by relaxing the assumption of independence to allow correlations in behavior. An everyday example of a correlated equilibrium is a traffic light: if a driver arrives at a traffic light and observes a red (green) signal, then drivers arriving in the perpendicular direction will observe a green (red) signal; thus, stopping ...
